Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom has been playing in some form at His Majesty's Theatre since 1986 - the longest-running show at the venue. Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe's lyrics, the falling chandelier, and the masquerade staircase have become shorthand for what a West End musical can do. The plot follows soprano Christine Daae and the masked composer who haunts the Paris Opera House. The current production retains the original Maria Bjornson design. Running time is around two hours and thirty minutes with an interval.
