Bizet's Carmen at the Royal Opera House - one of the most reliably bookable nights in London opera.
Bizet's Carmen returns to Covent Garden in regular seasons. Modern stagings (Barrie Kosky's production has been the most recent default) treat the work less as a folkloric Spain than as a hard-edged study of obsession. The Royal Opera Chorus and Orchestra play the score live. Running time is approximately three hours with one interval. Strong themes, recommended for ages twelve and up.
